Very nice. Starting with food? What kind of food do you use? I use hotdogs on a pup but a ball for police dogs most the time.

Yeah thats pretty much the way I do the sport dogs and young pups. For the police dogs we get them excited for a ball and then put the ball on the ground in a way the dog cant see it it until over th top of it. they learn to follow human scent and it also keeps their nose down looking for the ball. Its way faster than the slow sport track though..

Great pictures YordiZabar! Xasper is doing a really good job as are you of course with his training:) I might have to send Zane your way:)

I much prefer TTD to foot step tracking.

Yes there are many ways, the way you subscribe is like the most GSD people start it, you see also they make a square and put food in it, and let the puppy search. We never did that, we always started like this, and it works always, all the dogs were excellent trackers. Zabar took some time, because he never took the food on the track, but now he is an excellent tracking dog too, but tracking is practise, I think we track 2 a 3 times a week with the dogs.

Sorry for the confusion .....TTD (Tracking thru Drive) is not utilitzed in the sport world. Mainly used for Police Dogs - RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) use the method exclusively. I was just saying that footstep tracking bores the heck out of me, whereas tracking down the bad guy at a much faster pace was always fun:)

Can you explain how it goes TTD, just curious, never old to learn!

I agree about the TTD. I understand and even use the footstep when I have to, (sport dogs). But my real passion is finding the man. I train a Officer here with a Dutch Shep, who had a badass track last week. Down a road to, and across a huge field then over a creek crossing. Went though some nice woods to find me in a 20 ft high deer blind. Dog tried to get to me and damn near went halfway up some vert ladder steps! Nice dog.

I was trying to find some articles by G.F. Murray of the RCMP who explains it very well. I've been to a few of his Police K-9 Seminars with my 4 legged partner back in the day- he's an outstanding instructor but alas...it appears they have all been removed. As much as I hate to promote E. Fawley ...he does have a link about TTD - http://www.leerburg.com/ttd-2.htm
