I have a pit bull. She is 9 months old. She also just went through her first heat cycle. Her newest trait is to jump the fence. It just started a week ago and I was wondering if anyone had any idea why. She does it everytime she is let outside. It's driving me nuts.

How tall is your fence? Is she still in heat?

The fence is about 4 1/2 feet tall. She was in heat last month, but she no longer is. I am very confused because this just started this week. Its everytime she goes out. She is adimant about getting out of the fence. She does not go towards the other dogs though. She likes to sit on the porch across the street and watch me like some kinda weirdo. Its very confusing.

Thats odd. You will probably need to get a taller fence. Are you outside with her when she does it?

Oh yes. I have been taking her outside on a leash the past couple times so she could not get loose. Even on a leash she tries to jump over. It's driving me nuts. It just started as well. I wonder if it was something to do with her having gone into heat last month. I really dont want to get a new fence, but I cant have a very friendly pit bull that thinks she is a lapdog running around the neighborhood.

Wow I have never heard of a dog doing that before. I can understand your frustration.

its exhausting. I have started chaining her in the backyard, but I feel bad cause I know she hates it.

Most stuff like that can be worked out in obedience. Do you do a normal obedience session with her? Also do you walk her or is she just mostly in the yard?

You have good mind set about not wanting the dog running around. Two thumbs up. Pits are BAD arse dogs. They are definitively athletes. You could prolly have a 6 foot fence and she would still get over it. judgemenot is right about the obedience helping. What have you done to work with her so far?

I'm sure they could jump a 6ft fence I know huskis can do that. I don't leave them in my backyard unless I am there with them.
